Andiamo!

Hello friends and family, professors and peers,

For the next eight months, I’ll be living just outside the small Italian town of Crema (Italian for – you guessed it – “Cream”), about 50 km southeast of Milan. By day, I’ll be working as an English teaching assistant in a high school by the name of L’Istituto Tecnico Commerciale, per Geometri e per Corrispondenti in Lingue Estere “Luca Pacioli” di Crema. (Rolls right off the tongue, doesn't it?) By night and weekend, I plan to distribute my time evenly between the local espresso bars, soccer fields, vineyards, museums, and fashion outlets, hopefully accumulating along the way a bit of culture, some friends, an authentic Italian accent and a killer ability to match tight jeans with gratuitously large sunglasses.

I’m writing this blog primarily so that I can have a record of my adventures to one day show to my (Italian?) grandchildren, but if, at any point, you – the kind reader – wishes to take a look at it, I would be honored to distract you from your academic/occupational/social responsibilities, even if only for a few minutes at a time. If it's any incentive, know that I recently acquired a digital camera and plan on using it liberally.

For now, time to go explore the vast wonderland that is Newark Liberty International Airport. My flight still doesn't leave for a good two and a half hours, so who knows where the day could take me?

Until next time, be well, and stay in touch.

Fondly,

Nate

Sick! I was just in Italy - here are a few tips to throw on the huge pile you've surely collected already.

-Spend no more then 6 hours in Pisa. That's the approximate time it takes to walk the whole city, chill at the leaning tower, and eat dinner

-Florence street markets, grab a cashmere scarf for no more then 8-10 Euros (they start at 12-14). Same exact scarf/qaulity/material in America = $100-$120. I don't wear scarves but if I ever needed one, I'd be all set!

-Same market, great place to find hash!

-If you plan on visiting Venice plan an extra 2 hours for finding your hotel. I almost broke up with my girlfriend because of the fights that little fiasco caused. Sub-Tip: Figure out what section of venice your in and follow the big yellow signs, thats the best way to do it.

-If your in venice check out the island Murano, some of the best glass making in the world! You get to watch for free, just don't go during lunch.

-When visiting the touristy cities you won't find good italien restaurants unless you find the sections of the cities that are mainly residential. They all look good, but I recognize canned spaghetti sauce when I taste it, don't waste your money.

-Lastly, consider the Euro : Dollar ratio 1 : 1 or you'll be seriously depressed the whole time. I'mt alking about nightmares of coming home, visiting "bankofamerica.com" and in big red letters seeing "you owe us your next 5 children"-

-Learn how to ride a scooter ASAP

-And, lastly, enjoy!! The women are unbelievable, the food is godly, the landscape is unreal!

For my parents, grandparents, teachers, and police officer friends, know that I have no intention of obtaining any hash. At any point. But thank you sasha nonetheless for the kind advice.
